Liebert Open Access

Policies and FAQs

Please find below our open access policies and answers to frequently asked questions. If you need further information contact us.

How to Publish Open Access

Your manuscript acceptance letter will provide clear instructions for making your paper open access. You can also contact our open access department directly at openaccess@liebertpub.com after your paper has been accepted.

Please note that you must select open access as soon after acceptance as possible to ensure that all of the administrative details have been completed prior to your paper being published.

Licensing

When publishing open access with us, you retain copyright of your article and a liberal Creative Commons CC BY license is applied. This license permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author is credited and the Version of Record is cited.

Article Processing Charges

Article Processing Charges (APCs) cover the costs of maintaining a Journal’s submission system; editorial processes including peer review, production management, typesetting, and copyediting; indexing; online article hosting in perpetuity; archiving; and marketing. An APC is only applied if your article is accepted after peer review and you choose to publish open access.

Authors who are currently affiliated with a Group A Research4Life institution are eligible for APC waivers. The list of these institutions is available here.

All APCs are listed publicly on each individual journal’s For Authors page. Locate your journal of choice For Authors page here.

Institutional and Funder Compliance

Our open access program complies with the open access polices from several major funders and institutions – including US National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Wellcome Trust, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), Research Councils UK (UKRI), Plan S, and European Commission.

Gold Open Access

With gold open access, an article processing charge is paid by the author or organization to make the article freely and immediately accessible to the public. All journals published with Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. offer the opportunity to publish open access and we also have a portfolio of journal of fully open access journals. Whether you are interested in publishing in a fully open access journal or want to read leading peer-reviewed research that is freely accessible in perpetuity, you can find our premier open access journal collection here.

Green Open Access/Self-Archiving

All Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. hybrid journals offer green open access (a.k.a. self-archiving) as a route to provide immediate access to the Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) version of your paper and to ensure that your work is fully compliant with funder mandates. Our green open access policies are publicly listed on Sherpa Romeo.

Authors are welcome to post the accepted version of their manuscript to an institutional repository, funder repository, or personal website immediately upon publication of the Version of Record.

This option comes with no cost to the author, and we do not mandate a self-archiving embargo period for any author publishing in any of our journals.
