Medical Acupuncture is planning a Special Issue on Electroacupuncture.

In the interest of fostering a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms and the clinical effectiveness of electroacupuncture, we invite submissions of original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and narrative reviews, including, but not limited to, the following:

•    Research methodology
•    The biophysics of electroacupuncture
•    Electrical properties of points and channels as they pertain to electroacupuncture
•    Optimization of electroacupuncture treatments based on evidence
•    Comparative effectiveness of electroacupuncture and manual stimulation
•    Comparative effectiveness of electroacupuncture and other treatment modalities
•    Effectiveness of electroacupuncture combined with other treatment modalities
•    Electroacupuncture in microsystems
•    Variable frequency protocols
•    Frequency-specific and point-specific effects of electroacupuncture on pain-modulating neuropeptide release
•    Comparison of microampere and milliampere protocols
•    Effects of electroacupuncture on stem cell release, neural repair, and CNS re-modeling
•    Role of electroacupuncture in promoting wound healing
•    Role of electroacupuncture in promoting bone healing
•    Directions for future research

Clinical data must be reported in accordance with STRICTA guidelines, and, in the interest of reproducibility, all studies must include electroacupuncture parameters (device, pulse frequency, waveform, method of determining voltage, whether stimulation was single needle (unipolar) or involved two or more needles (multi-polar), details of any variable frequency protocol, etc.)

Deadline for manuscripts submission:  August 15, 2023

Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
