Neurotrauma Reports and the National Neurotrauma Society Announce New Award for Best Publication by an Early Career Researcher

Neurotrauma Reports and the National Neurotrauma Society (NNS) are proud to announce the very first NNS award for the best new publication by an Early Career Researcher (ECR), published within a new manuscript category called Neurotrauma Trainee Perspectives. ECR NNS members (graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, both PhD and MD) are invited to spearhead a perspective piece in collaboration with a co-author(s) from another institute or discipline, to promote interdisciplinary research and to inject some innovative fresh ideas into the neurotrauma field. The perspective pieces should be brief (approximately 3000 words) and focused on a novel or innovative approach or direction in the field, rather than a comprehensive review of the chosen topic.

The Neurotrauma Trainee Perspectives Award will be determined by the Editorial Board Members of the journal and will be formally decided by June 1, 2024, for papers published in the journal over the preceding 12-month period. Awardees will be announced and celebrated at the NNS annual symposium, and receive a waiver to publish a future article in Neurotrauma Reports

The Neurotrauma Trainee Perspectives Award defines an ECR as any individual who is within 10 years of completing a Ph.D. degree (by the award decision date on June 1st, and taking into account career disruptions e.g., parental leave). Prior to submission, authors are encouraged to submit a short description of the Perspectives article, including a tentative title, ~350 word overview of the proposed topic (to ensure that it is within the scope of the Neurotrauma Trainee Perspectives category), and a brief description of the applicant/author (including current training position, years in training, prior publications, and career disruptions).

Please self-identify as a candidate for the award in your submission cover letter. The formal decision date for this award will be May 1st.
