Opioid and Cannabinoid Interaction
Opioid and cannabinoid signals cooperate in the brain and peripheral tissues to regulate the processing of painful and rewarding stimuli as well as other physiological processes. Studies in animal models are revealing mechanisms through which endogenous and exogenous cannabinoids modulate opioid analgesia, opioid addiction and opioid withdrawal, while emerging clinical and epidemiological data point to intriguing, potentially useful interactions between the opioid and cannabinoid systems.
This article collection will be published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research. It will highlight the important, and exciting, new avenues for future research in the exploration of opioid and cannabinoid interaction.
The Journal will accept a wide variety of articles on opioid and cannabinoid interaction. Some potential topics include:
- Cannabinoid-opioid system cross-talk
- Implications of cannabinoid-induced alterations in opioid function
- Cannabinoid-induced decreases in opiate withdraw expression
- Insights into potential cannabinoid-opioid therapeutic targets from the clinic
