Lentiviral vectors have proven their potency as gene transfer tools in cell and gene therapy. Despite this success, the design of the vector system itself, but also its production, is a subject of continuous improvement. In addition, novel strategies have been developed to improve efficiency of cell transduction as well as engraftment of vector-modified cells.
To address these novel developments, we are assembling a special issue in Human Gene Therapy Methods which will focus on providing in-depth insight into the current state-of-the art in lentiviral vector technology. Protocols as well as original and review articles are sought in the following general categories:
- Engineering next-generation lentiviral vectors
- Production and titration of lentiviral vectors
- Strategies to improve lentiviral vector purity
- Quality control (QC) assays
- Improving transduction efficiency and vector safety
- Improving engraftment of vector-modified cells
