More than one million hematopoietic stem cell transplantations have been performed and this methodology has remained at the forefront of stem cell-based medicine for the past 50 years.  The next decades will see the convergence of cutting-edge technologies for hematotherapy and its derivative effector cells. The rapid development and evolution of vector technologies, genomic engineering, ex vivo culture, expansion, and directed lineage commitment strategies will synergize to derive the next generation of safer and more effective hematotherapeutics.

We honor the past and look to the future in a segment termed Pioneers and Pathfinders.  Senior and junior investigators will be profiled for their perspectives on impactful approaches and techniques to advance hematotherapy.

To contribute to the realization of next generation therapies, Stem Cells and Development seeks high quality review articles and original research papers on the following topics related to hematotherapeutics:

  • Cellular Engineering
  • Gene Therapy
  • Gene and Base Editing
  • Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell platform-based production of specified lineages
  • Lineage Specific Applications (e.g. Immunotherapy, CAR T-cells, NK-cells, MSC, Dendritic cells/vaccines etc)
  • Safety: genotoxicity, immunotoxicity, off target activity
  • Novel approaches to GMP cell manufacturing, culture, expansion, and scaling
  • Xenogeneic models
  • Delivery

Manuscripts should be approximately 3,000 words in length with a 300-word maximum for abstracts. All additional information for submission can be found in our Information for Authors.

Stem Cells and Development is globally recognized as the trusted source for critical, even controversial coverage of emerging hypotheses and novel findings. With a focus on stem cells of all tissue types and their potential therapeutic applications, the Journal provides clinical, basic, and translational scientists with cutting-edge research and findings.

Advantages of publishing in Stem Cells and Development include:

  • Fast and user-friendly electronic submission
  • Rapid, high-quality peer review
  • Maximum exposure: accessible in 170 countries worldwide
  • Open Access options available
