Special Issue on New Space Africa

Guest Editor

Timiebi Aganaba, PhD

New Space is the only international peer-reviewed journal dedicated to academic, industry, and government contributions to space entrepreneurship and innovation. Featuring world-class content that covers innovative and expanding applications at the intersection of space science, engineering, policy, and business, the Journal encourages the growth of rapidly expanding enterprises and products that will advance knowledge, benefit society and improve the way we live.

We are organizing a Special Issue on New Space: Through an African Lens and invite you to contribute to this comprehensive collection of articles. This special issue will publish the top 3 submissions from the Space Governance Innovation Contest, organized in partnership with the Arizona State University’s Interplanetary Initiative Space Advisory Project, Space in Africa, the Lagos Court of Arbitration and the Outer Space Institute. For this contest, interdisciplinary teams of African innovators competed to identify policy gaps in international space law and devised policy and legal instruments to address the policy gap.

For this Special issue, we invite you to submit abstracts which address the highlighted policy gaps, identified through the contest as priority areas, either utilizing an African lens, highlighting African perspectives or that will be of relevance to Africa’s space future.

The contest highlighted the following policy areas of interest, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Mega constellations and the threat of spectrum warehousing
  • Implementing the United Nations Long-Term Sustainability Guidelines
  • Proposing new governance institutions and regimes
  • Space ecosystems and national innovation systems
  • Multi-task-holderism and governance of non-state actors
  • Space resources and benefit sharing regimes

Contributions will receive prompt and thorough peer review. Authors may vet ideas directly with the Guest Editor Timiebi Aganaba before submitting. Please refer to our Instructions for Authors before submitting your manuscript for consideration.
