3D Printing for Tissue Engineering

Guest Editor:

Elizabeth Cosgriff-Hernandez, PhD
University of Texas at Austin

Expected Publication Date: January 2020

Ever since its first introduction to researchers and industries by Charles Hull, 3D printing has revolutionized traditional medical device development processes and treatment strategies. The adaptation of current 3D printing techniques for tissue engineering has enabled the fabrication of scaffolds that more closely mimic the structural complexity and function of native organs and tissues. This special issue will highlight recent advances on development of compatible methods (printers) and materials (bioinks) that are capable of producing biomimetic scaffolds.

The Guest Editor of this special issue will consider articles from the full breadth of research in the field from original research papers to reviews and methods papers. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Bioinks and Bioprinting
  • Stereolithography and Digital Light Processing 3D Printing
  • Extrusion-based Printing
  • Direct-Write Electrospinning
  • Standardized Testing in Additive Biomanufacturing
  • New Additive Manufacturing Materials and Methods
  • 3D Tissue Culture Models

Contributions will receive prompt and thorough peer review. Please refer to our Instructions for Authors before submitting your manuscript for consideration. Authors are encouraged to vet ideas directly with Elizabeth Cosgriff-Hernandez before submitting.

Authors of accepted contributions to the Special Issue will receive a waiver for print color production fees and a discount for open access fee options.
