New Rochelle, NY, November 14, 2019—Violence and Gender Editor-in-Chief Mary Ellen O'Toole, PhD has issued an immediate call to action in response to the shooting at a Southern California high school today.
Dr. O'Toole states "The shooting at Saugus High School underscores the importance of warning behaviors in these incidents, and how action taken based on these warning behaviors can dramatically help to prevent these shootings. Violence and Gender is taking a leadership role to research pre-incident factors including warning behaviors that precede these shootings."
“We’ve waited long enough,” says Mary Ann Liebert, publisher of the Journal and president and CEO of the company that bears her name. “This political football must stop. Our children are being killed and the laws must be changed now.”
"We can no longer normalize these behaviors," Dr. O'Toole continues, "or expect students to be on the front lines of this violent behavior as they run from the schools for their lives because we don’t know how to stop it on the front end. This violence is unacceptable. The time is now, the place is Violence and Gender."
