New Rochelle, NY, July 20, 2021—“With today's successful flight of Blue Origin's New Shepard vehicle, many important milestones were achieved,” said Ken Davidian, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of New Space: The Journal of Space Entrepreneurship and Innovation. “One of the most significant milestones is the carriage of the first space flight participant who bought a ticket to fly! With more flights carrying actual customers, from both Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic, we are witnessing the emergence of a new industry, suborbital tourism, and this emergence comes with the promise of new innovations, new jobs, and new opportunities!"

New Space: The Journal of Space Entrepreneurship and Innovation congratulates Jeff Bezos and his company, Blue Origin, on the successful launch of New Shepard today. This is the first launch of a commercial space craft carrying citizens who paid for tickets. New Space, founded nine years ago, is a major source of information for those in the space and aviation fields, including professionals in related industries, academia, and government.

New Space is the journal of record for the commercialization of space tourism and all of the possibilities these flights hold for exploring meaningful ways to address issues such as climate change,” said Mary Ann Liebert, president and CEO of the company that bears her name and publisher of New Space. “Young people will be able to travel to space as prices come down, and many students in physics and engineering as well as astronautics will find career opportunities that are truly stellar.”

Ken Davidian is Director of Research at the FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation. To interview or obtain a quote from Dr. Davidian, please contact Kathryn Ryan at the publisher’s office.
