Aims & Scope


Tissue Engineering is the preeminent, biomedical journal advancing the field with cutting-edge research and applications that repair or regenerate portions or whole tissues. This multidisciplinary journal brings together the principles of engineering and life sciences in the creation of artificial tissues and regenerative medicine. Tissue Engineering is divided into three parts, providing a central forum for groundbreaking scientific research and developments of clinical applications from leading experts in the field that will enable the functional replacement of tissues.

Tissue Engineering (Part A) is the authoritative peer-reviewed journal focusing on the fundamental and applied experimental aspects for the development of therapeutic strategies to repair or regenerate tissue and organ function. Part A publishes 24 issues per year.

Tissue Engineering Reviews (Part B) meets the urgent need for high-quality review articles by presenting critical literature overviews and systematic summaries of research within the field to assess the current standing and future directions within relevant areas and technologies. Part B publishes bi-monthly.

Tissue Engineering Methods (Part C) presents innovative tools and assays in scaffold development, stem cells and biologically active molecules to advance the field and to support clinical translation. Part C publishes monthly.

Tissue Engineering, Parts A, B, & C are under the editorial leadership of Co-Editors-in-Chief Antonios G. Mikos, PhD, Rice University, and John P. Fisher, PhD, Fischell Department of Bioengineering, University of Maryland; Reviews Co-Editors-in-Chief Katja Schenke-Layland, MSc, PhD, University Women's Hospital at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, and Heungsoo Shin, PhD, Hanyang University; Methods Co-Editors-in-Chief John A. Jansen, DDS, PhD, Department of Biomaterials, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center, and Xiumei Wang, PhD, Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Biomimetic Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University; and other leading investigators.
