The functional repair or regeneration of tissues critically depends on accurate measurements of the biomechanical properties of tissues and engineered scaffolds, consideration of the effects of mechanical loading on tissues, and understanding of the mechanobiological interactions between cells and their extracellular matrix.

This special issue of Tissue Engineering Part C: Methods will focus on recent advances in methods related to biomechanics and mechanobiology in the context of tissue engineering, including, but not limited to, topics such as the following:

  • The use of reproducible protocols for the production and evaluation of scaffold materials
  • Methods for modeling and measuring biomechanical properties of native and repaired tissues
  • Methods for identifying biomechanical properties as design criteria for engineered tissues
  • Methods for incorporating mechanical loading to promote repair or regeneration of tissues
  • Methods to facilitate mechanistic understanding of how mechanobiological interactions between cells and their microenvironment affect the functionality of repaired or regenerated tissues, and more
Contributions will receive prompt and thorough peer review and will be published online (epub) ahead of print after acceptance. Please refer to our Instructions for Authors before submitting your manuscript for consideration.
