Recently a novel blood test was introduced for evaluation of mTBI patients into clinical practice. Abott's TBI test measures levelso of two biomarkers to aid in the evalutation of adult mTBI patients within 12 hours of injury. The test has the potential to reduce number of unnecessary CT scans conducted for mTBI patients, hence addressing some of the challenges in current TBI evaluation practices.
For this white paper, interdisciplinary teams from hospital centers leading implementation of Alinity i TBI test came together in a round table discussion to share progress and discuss encountered challenges. Key opinion leaders working in hospital laboratories, EDs, and neurosurgery discussed current practices used in their hospitals and the daily challenges they face with mTBI evaluation. They also shared data obtained from evalutaions of Abbott's TBI test and next steps toward its routine implementation.
