In a context of scarcity of fossil resources, a significant increase in their price, but above all consumer demand for more natural, safer and less dangerous products for the environment, the cosmetic and the food industries are investing more and more in biotechnological processes. Indeed, thanks to the use of enzymes and micro-organisms, they are developing new sustainable processes for the production of petro-sourced molecules, or better still, new molecules making it possible to get rid of certain bioactives and ingredients currently decried due to their toxicity to humans and/or the environment. With major advances in molecular biology, synthetic biology, biocatalysis, fermentation and downstream processes, the development of biotechnological pathways is now experiencing rapid growth, to the point of now competing with conventional chemical processes that have been used for decades.

This Special Issue will highlight both the success stories recently industrialized and the new approaches validated at the laboratory scale but not yet brought to the industrial scale. Therefore, academics as well as industrial researchers are invited to contribute.

This prominent Special Issue will consider articles from the full breadth of evidence: from original research papers and reviews, to perspectives, profiles, commentaries, and exemplary front matter. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to the bioproduction of:

  • Antioxidants
  • Antimicrobials
  • UV filters
  • Preservatives
  • Flavors & fragrances
  • Nutraceuticals
  • Green solvents
  • Formulants
  • Etc.

We also encourage submission of papers that have been published in conference proceedings, with the requirement that the authors have made significant extensions as compared to the already published version of the study.

Manuscript Submission Deadline: July 25, 2023
