Neurodevelopmental disorders encompass a broad range of conditions that emerge early in childhood, ranging from autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) to intellectual disability (ID) and motor disorders, as well as rare genetic syndromes. The biological etiology of neurodevelopmental disorders is equally broad, which includes but is not limited to genetics, immune dysfunction, and pre-/peri-natal exposures.

Our knowledge of the impact of emotional-behavioral aspects of neurodevelopmental disorders on quality of life, as well as the urgent clinical need for therapeutics specific to neurodevelopmental disorders has grown over the past two decades. Further, the need for a deeper understanding of both biological and clinical data to support the development of targeted pharmacologic interventions has become increasingly clear. In light of this, the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology is planning a special issue intending to showcase research and innovative insights in the field of neurodevelopmental disorders and related topics. We welcome both original research and review articles. Topics suitable for this special issue on the psychopharmacology of neurodevelopmental disorders include, but are not limited to:

  • ASDs, ID, rare genetic syndromes, or other neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Preclinical models
  • Neuroimaging studies
  • Genetics and genomics
  • Research promoting inclusivity and diversity
  • Effectiveness and efficacy trials
  • Tolerability
  • Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
