We are delighted to announce the call for papers for a special edition of AI in Precision Oncology dedicated to exploring the crucial intersection of ethics and regulation in Precision Oncology, and healthcare more broadly.

As AI technologies continue to advance at an unprecedented pace, their applications in precision oncology hold tremendous promise for improving patient outcomes, enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and revolutionizing healthcare delivery. However, alongside these advancements, ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks become paramount to ensure the responsible development, deployment, and utilization of healthcare AI systems. This special issue aims to bring together a diverse range of perspectives, insights, and research endeavors to advance our understanding of the ethical challenges and regulatory mechanisms essential for promoting the responsible use of AI in precision oncology.

We invite researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and scholars from various disciplines to contribute original research articles, case studies, theoretical perspectives, and critical analyses that delve into the multifaceted issues surrounding ethics and regulation in AI as it is deployed in precision oncology.

The special edition seeks to explore a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Ethical implications of AI algorithms in healthcare decision-making
  • Bias, fairness, and transparency in healthcare AI systems
  • Privacy and data protection in the era of healthcare AI
  • Explainability and interpretability of AI models in healthcare
  • Trust, accountability, and governance in healthcare AI applications
  • Legal and regulatory frameworks for healthcare AI deployment
  • Patient consent, autonomy, and the right to privacy in AI-enabled healthcare
  • Ensuring equity and inclusivity in healthcare AI technologies
  • Ethical considerations in the use of AI for mental health diagnosis and treatment
  • Social and cultural implications of healthcare AI adoption

We welcome both empirical and theoretical contributions that shed light on these critical issues. Submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the highest quality of published work. Manuscripts that propose practical solutions, address emerging challenges, or offer novel ethical frameworks will be of particular interest.

We look forward to receiving your submissions and fostering an enriching dialogue that advances our understanding of ethics and regulation in the field of precision oncology. By collectively addressing these important topics, we aim to shape the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies in healthcare, ultimately benefiting patients, healthcare professionals, and society as a whole.

We also encourage submission of papers that have been published in conference proceedings, with the requirement that the authors have made significant extensions as compared to the already published version of the study.
